Special Autism Awareness Month Promotion

Welcome to Nutrition & Autism Spotlight’s Autism Awareness Month Issue! Nutricia North America would like to share its support in recognizing Autism Awareness Day today, and the entire month of April, which is Autism Awareness Month.

For a listing of today’s special events, resources and more, visit http://www.worldautismawarenessday.org.

Share Your Story During Autism Awareness Month

April is Autism Awareness Month and is the perfect time to help raise awareness about Autism and the benefits of Nutrition Intervention. Want to get involved? One way you can help raise awareness is by contacting your local media and sharing your story with them. If you need help or have questions about the best way to get in contact with newspapers and TV stations in your area, email us at Nutricia@ecius.net.

Music Therapy for Children with Autism

A recent article in the New Jersey Star-Ledger discussed the benefits of music therapy for children with autism. According to the article, many parents are turning to music therapy to improve their child’s everyday functions. Why do children with autism seem responsive to music therapy? One theory is their interest in creating patterns. Click here to read the entire article.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs)

Linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid are essential fatty acids (EFAs) — fatty acids that our bodies cannot produce and therefore, must be obtained through our diets. EFAs are important for proper brain development and function.1 Research has shown that the ratio in which the two EFAs are consumed is also important. In a study published in 2003, Dr. Schlomo Yehuda suggested that an EFA ratio of 4:1 may be optimal for brain-mediated functions.2 Both E028 Splash and Neocate Junior contain lenoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid in amounts that meet the noted ratio, contributing to proper brain development and function and providing the suggested ideal balance.

Zac Browser - Zone for Autistic Children

ZAC is the first Web browser developed specifically for children with autism and autism spectrum disorders. ZAC has tons of games and activities that cater specifically to kids who display the characteristics of ASD, such as impairments in social interaction and communication, restricted interests and repetitive behavior. It also provides a forum for parents, caretakers, teachers and others to share their experiences, tools and resources.

Warm Milk and Honey

Warm milk and honey is a classic bedtime drink so try this recipe at nighttime. Gently warm rice milk and honey in a saucepan or in the microwave. Once removed from heat, stir in Neocate Junior powder.

Nutrition & Autism Promotion
with Autism Speaks

In support of Autism Awareness Month, Nutricia North America invites you to make a one-time donation of $25 to Autism Speaks during the month of April. Nutrition & Autism will then provide you a discount of $50 off one case of either E028 Splash or Neocate Junior in any flavor.

Just e-mail your donation receipt to info@nutritionandautism.com or fax to 301.795.2302 to the attention of Nutrition & Autism. Please include your first name, last name, phone number and e-mail address so a Nutrition Specialist can contact you directly with your special discount code, online ordering instructions and special diet assistance.

To maximize the effectiveness of E028 Splash and Neocate Junior, Nutrition & Autism recommends using the products in conjunction with a special diet, such as the GFCF diet. In addition, if you are considering starting your child with autism on a special diet, we suggest doing at least a two-week trial to see whether the diet will benefit your child.

To learn more about how you can get started on a two-week trial, visit Nutrition & Autism’s Splash Challenge page.
